KIBAKO [A light fixture that can be changed to match the season]
In Japan, there are four distinct seasons, each with its own beauty, and for ages not only clothing but also everyday items have been changed depending on the season. These items were specially designed to make one’s daily environment more enjoyable while allowing one to experience the particular season. The clothing and daily items for a particular season were removed from their storage box when that season arrived and when that season passed, the clothing and daily items were returned to their box until the season came again. Since in the modern age people are able to live comfortably indoors through out the year, the need for special designs and change has decreased, which has made it more difficult to personally experience the changes in the season.
I wanted to create an interior light fixture that could be changed as the seasons change through out the year, and my Japanese four-season light fixture is an expression of this desire and my culture. This has taken the shape of a light fixture, which represents each season with a different wooden box. The boxes are changed according to the season, which makes it possible to experience, even indoors, the joy and wonder of change, as one experiences the four seasons.

The box transforms into a light fixture. When not being used, the light fixture is stored in the form of a box.
Sai(spring): Cherry blossoms decorating the tree

Ryu (summer): Peaceful flow of water and wind

Kou(autumn): Trees' ensemble that changes to the red of autumn leaves

Mai(winter): Beauty of dancing snow
By rotating the four light fixtures through out the year, it changes, as the Japanese four-seasons change.
