KIBAKO [A light fixture that can be changed to match the season]

[ the box --> the light fixture ]

The box transforms into a light fixture.

A special wire is attached to the lid, and this wire is extended when using the light fixture.

Each fixture represents a single Japanese season.

By rotating the four light fixtures through out the year, it changes, as the Japanese four-seasons change.

[ the light fixture --> the box ]

When not being used, the light fixture is stored in the form of a box.

When the lid is closed, the glass parts are in the box.

When not being used, the electric cord is stored in the box.

The special cloth is used to cover the light fixture in the box form.

Covering the box with the special cloth not only gives the box a touch of beauty but also protects it from dirt and damage when being moved and stored.

[ Concept ]

Based on the Japanese ideas and tradition of storing seasonal decorations not being used in wooden boxes, I have expressed the Japanese four seasons as a lighting fixture.

Sai(spring) :Cherry blossoms decorating the tree
Ryu (summer) :Peaceful flow of water and wind
Kou(autumn) :Trees' ensemble that changes to the red of autumn leaves
Mai(winter) :Beauty of dancing snow

[ designer: Yasutoshi Mifune ]

My opinion is that design necessity and how a piece will relate with the people and their daily environment are more important than the visible elements, such as shape and material.
